When I discovered Captain Blankenship Mermaid Hair Oil I was super excited. I finally found a hair oil that was actually made with only real oils, and they’re organic too! (Read my rant about oils that aren’t really oils HERE) And it also came in super adorable packaging! Add that to the name having the word “mermaid” in it and I knew I had to have it. I’ve been told on numerous occasions that I have “mermaid hair”. Also, I would totally be a mermaid if I could. 100% serious.
The base oils that make up most of the formula are argan, kukui, jojoba, and sunflower. All of which provide hydration, smoothing, and frizz taming capabilities. However, I could do without the orange, fir, rosemary, and cedarwood oils. They mix together to form a somewhat antiseptic/kitchen cleaner type of smell.
Ingredients: Organic Argan Oil, Organic Kukui Nut Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil,Organic Sunflower Oil, Wildharvested Wild Sweet Orange Essential Oil, Organic Fir Needle Essential Oil, Organic Rosemary Essential Oil, Organic Cedarwood Essential Oil.
I can get past most smells if the product is effective though. But they somehow make this oil kind of sticky or something. This oil did not make my hair feel smooth, or add shine. It felt very textured and, well, sticky. Not put your hand in a pot of honey sticky, but more like can’t run your fingers easily through your hair sticky. It also made my hair more matte-finish, not shiny. It was super weird. Suffice to say, I didn’t like it and I don’t recommend this oil if you’re looking for smoothness and shine. If you want an oil that provides some texture though, this may be a good option for you. It would probably go well with the Captain Blankenship Salt Spray.
