Cosrx Galactomyces 95 Whitening Power Essence is a first treatment type of essence, and can be used right after cleansing, taking the place of toner. You can also use it after toner. It is a clear liquid, slightly thicker than water but not as thick as most serums. I like that it is really watery, since it soaks right in to my skin immediately upon application and leaves no residue.
The star ingredient is galactomyces ferment filtrate which makes up 95% of the entire product. It is a fermented yeast extract very similar to the cult favourite SK-II treatment essence (which costs a whole lot more for the same size bottle). It claims to have brightening and radiance boosting properties. In my opinion, it totally does. Since I started using it over a month ago, I have definitely seen an overall brightening of my skin. It just looks more radiant.
The galactomyces ferment filtrate along with the niacinamide, or vitamin B3, has helped provide some slight but noticeable lightening of a couple pesky dark spots on my cheeks (due to stupid teenaged me never wearing sunscreen like my mom told me to). There is also some hyaluronic acid, which helps with overall skin hydration.
Ingredients: Galactomyces ferment filtrate, niacinamide, sodium hyaluronate, betaine, panthenol, glycerin, 1,2-hexanediol, allantoin, butylene glycol, xanthan gum, ethyl hexanediol, adenosine
I highly recommend this essence, and I would definitely buy it again. The only real drawback is the rather unfortunate name. At least it’s been slightly modified, this product used to be called “White Power Essence” which is definitely worse. Something like “Brightening Power Essence” would certainly be better.
It should work well on sensitive skin, unless you are aware of a sensitivity or allergy to one of the ingredients. I’m always a fan of products with minimal ingredients lists, since the fewer ingredients there are, the less chance that they will interact and cause reactions on sensitive skin. Cosrx products are formulated with sensitive (and particularly acne-prone) skin in mind. They only include what is necessary for the product to function well, so that irritation and reactions are minimized. According to Cosrx, they also don’t test their products on animals, so it’s also cruelty free.
Cosrx products are effective, well formulated, and well priced (a winning combination!). This is definitely a must-have for me!
