Every now and then, when I have built up a box full of empty product bottles, I like to go through them all and post my final thoughts. I planned to do this sooner, but it turns out I only ever get around to doing this every six months or so. Multiple moves and a home purchase have taken up the majority of my time lately, but I do hope to do this more frequently in the future.
In my posts about empties, I cover the products I’ve reviewed but I will also sometimes include something where I had a deluxe sample, or something I was able to try but not for long enough to feel like I can write a full review. I also give a final decision on whether I would repurchase it or not. I’m constantly looking for a newer and better thing to use. So if I am willing to repurchase something, it’s generally quite good.
So I didn’t end up keeping any makeup packaging that I finished in the last six months, so this will be a skincare only “Empties”. Here are my final thoughts:
Peter Thomas Roth Irish Moor Mud Cleanser – This is a good, deeply purifying cleanser that is going to be best for oily, congested, acne-prone skin types. It’s quite drying. It does work pretty well though. Would I repurchase? No.
Youth to the People Age Prevention Cleanser – A slightly foamy gel cleanser. I found that this removed makeup well and left skin feeling refreshed and healthy without feeling stripped of all moisture. One of the better cleansers I have tried recently. Would I repurchase? Yes.
Boscia Tsubaki Oil-Infused Exfoliating Powder – This cleansing powder makes a nice foamy face wash when mixed with water. It leaves skin feeling soft and smooth without over-exfoliating. Would I repurchase? Maybe, but I prefer Tatcha’s Polished Rice Enzyme Cleansing Powder
Drunk Elephant Pekee and Juju Cleansing Bars – These were both excellent facial cleansers. The juju bar was lovely in the mornings and left skin feeling smooth while the pekee bar removed makeup well and left skin feeling super moisturized. I feel like these are better for normal to dry skin types, the pekee bar in particular left my skin with perhaps more moisture than was necessary for my combo oily skin. Would I repurchase? No, they are really good products, just not quite right for my skin type.
Boscia Charcoal Makeup Melter Cleansing Oil-Balm – This cleansing balm is amazing. It removes all traces of makeup and the charcoal helps clear pores of impurities. I love this stuff. Would I repurchase? Most definitely.
Serums and Treatments
Missha Time Revolution First Treatment Essence – This is a really lovely brightening and lightly hydrating essence to apply before moisturizer. I like it but found it a bit heavy for me. It’s probably better for normal to dry skin types. Would I repurchase? No, I prefer the Cosrx Galactomyces 95 Whitening Power Essence, it’s lighter and works better on my oily skin (it’s cheaper too!).
Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid – For anyone with clogged pores, this stuff is a godsend. It’s amazing. Would I repurchase? Heck yes.
Hylamide Low-Molecular HA – This hydrating serum from Hylamide is amazing. It contains 5 different types of hyaluronic acid to rehydrate skin at the deepest layers. It’s also a really reasonable price. Would I repurchase? Yes, absolutely.
The Ordinary 2% Alpha Arbutin + HA – This effective serum contains alpha arbutin to help lighten dark spots and promote even skin tone. It works and it’s a great value. Would I repurchase? Yes.
The Ordinary 23% Ascorbic Acid + 2% HA – This is a super potent vitamin C serum. The vitamin C powder is suspended in liquid, and I found it to be pretty gritty feeling on my skin (although that feeling can be reduced by mixing it into other products). It works, but it was a bit irritating on my sensitive skin since it has such a high concentration of vitamin C. Would I repurchase? No, I’ve been testing other vitamin C products from The Ordinary that I prefer (like The Ordinary Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F).
Graydon Skincare – Natural Elements Sun Cream Complex – One of the best sunscreens for sensitive skin. It’s thick at first, but blends well with no white cast. A personal favourite. Would I repurchase? Yes, definitely.
Indie Lee Squalane Facial Cream – This face cream is awesome. Light textured, but deeply hydrating and provides excellent moisture at skin’s surface. Would I repurchase? Yes.
Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream – I had a deluxe sample of this, enough for about a week. I thought it seemed ok, but didn’t really do a whole lot for me. I was super wowed by it. Would I repurchase? Probably not, there are so many other great creams out there.
Cosrx Honey Ceramide Full Moisture Cream – I loved this cream during the winter. It is deeply moisturizing and helps repair dry skin with ceramides and manuka honey. And it’s reasonably priced for a good amount of product. Would I repurchase? Yes, definitely.
Graydon Skincare – All Natural Super Sensitive Skin Stuff – If you are really sensitive and have reactions to a lot of products, then this is a great choice. It’s simple but effective. Would I repurchase? Yes, if my skin was going through a bit of a rough patch.
So those are my final thoughts on some products I emptied…thanks for reading! Until next time!
