Herbivore Bamboo Charcoal Cleansing Bar is an excellent face cleanser for anyone with oily or acne-prone skin. It cleans very deeply and helps diminish the appearance of acne almost immediately. I found that it started purging my skin right away. Within a few days I had significantly fewer clogged pores.
The idea of cleansing bars seemed an odd one to me for a long time, since the only ones available throughout my teen years were super stripping and harsh. And full of perfume. But now there are so many amazing options out there for natural, gentle face cleansing bars that I want to try them all! (I’m also a fan of travel friendly face products)
This cleansing bar leaves a “squeaky clean” feeling that can be a bit drying, so make sure you hydrate well afterward, regardless of your skin type. Just make sure to use something non-pore clogging, obviously. Since unclogging pores is the whole reason to use this soap. Oily, acne prone skin will probably get the most benefit from this, but you could use it if your skin is dry as well. Just make sure to moisturize.
Sensitive skin should find this a good cleansing option as well, since it’s natural, organic, and only contains a very small amount of fragrant bergamot oil. There are no harsh surfactants (like sulphates). The only issue (for me) is the bergamot oil. Being allergic to all citrus oils is really annoying since they’re in everything.
If I use this soap as my only cleaner, my skin eventually gets a bit irritated and I get small red bumps on my cheeks that look like breakouts but are really just an allergic reaction to the fragrance. However, if citrus oils aren’t an issue for you, then this is a fantastic cleansing bar for oily acne-prone skin. My husband has been using it and has seen dramatic improvement in his skin. It’s his new favourite cleanser. He has now gone through one whole bar (which lasted a few months with twice daily use) and is now on his second.
Ingredients: Saponified Oils of Cocos nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Olea europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Elaeis guineensis (Sustainable Palm) Oil, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Kaolinite (White Clay), Activated Bamboo Charcoal, Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Citrus bergamia (Bergamot) Esssential Oil
I found that this did a reasonable job of makeup removal, but it struggled with eye makeup. So if you are in the habit of wearing liquid eyeliner or lots of mascara, you should consider removing it before using this. But it worked great at removing minimal makeup.
I am going to look around for a charcoal face soap that doesn’t have any essential oils in it and try that out since the charcoal was working wonders on my skin for the first few days. But I highly recommend trying this out if you aren’t allergic to citrus oils like me. This stuff really works.
