Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Review

It took me a long time to get around to trying out Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid.  Mostly because I wasn’t able to ship it into Canada until relatively recently.  We Canadians get screwed on shipping for a lot of things (either because the shipping ends up costing an arm and a leg, or because stores won’t ship it to us at all).  But now that I can actually get this product, I’ve been using it for a little over a month.  And OMG I have found the ultimate BHA liquid exfoliant.  HG status people.  When it comes to salicylic acid products, Paula Begoun knows what she’s doing.  Acne and clogged pore sufferers rejoice, here is the answer to your prayers.

This is one of only a handful of BHA (or salicylic acid) liquid exfoliants that I have ever found that doesn’t contain any of the ingredients that irritate my sensitive, acne prone skin.  There is no alcohol, no fragrance,  and no camphor or menthol.  Plus, it is actually formulated at the correct pH for salicylic acid to be effective at clearing out your pores and getting rid of breakouts.  I also like that the ingredients list is relatively short.

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Methylpropanediol (hydration), Butylene Glycol (hydration), Salicylic Acid (beta hydroxy acid/exfoliant), Polysorbate 20 (stabilizer), Camellia Oleifera Leaf Extract (green tea/skin calming/antioxidant), Sodium Hydroxide (pH balancer), Tetrasodium EDTA (stabilizer).

I will admit that if you use too much, it can feel a bit greasy.  But if you use a very small amount on a cotton pad then the greasiness is much less noticeable.  It’s quite easy to only use a little bit, since the top of the bottle has a nice flow restrictor on it.  You have to gently shake the bottle to get the liquid out.

I like to apply this right after cleansing (sometimes layered over a glycolic acid exfoliant).  Then I let it sit for at least a few minutes (preferably 10-20) before applying any other serums or creams on top.

Before I started using Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid, I was using Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid (full review HERE).  The Cosrx BHA essence is still awesome, and I still love it as a more gentle salicylic acid product.  But it was struggling with some really stubborn clogged pores I get around my chin.  The Paula’s Choice BHA has been working hard to get those cleared up remarkably well.  I might actually have a blemish-free, clogged pore-free chin pretty soon.  It’s literally been years (maybe even more than a decade) since I had that.

So anyone who struggles with blackheads, breakouts, or clogged pores, get yourself some of this.  Like yesterday.

Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid is available in a 4oz bottle, for $29USD, at Amazon or Nordstrom
