I first found out about the tarte Rainforest of the Sea collection before it was released at Sephora. When I was looking through all the new products and I saw this eyeshadow palette, I knew right away that I just had to have it. It is the perfect range of shades for the type of makeup I do on myself all the time. Most of the shades are very neutral, and all but two have a metallic finish. The shades are all absolutely beautiful, and just look at that packaging…so gorgeous.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a big fan of tarte cosmetics. Despite this, I haven’t been a big fan of their eyeshadow in the past. I have an eyeshadow palette I bought a few years ago (or maybe more…) and I was not all that pleased with the pigmentation and lasting power of the eyeshadow. I think it was called the Day to Night Palette or something along those lines. This palette is a totally different story though.
These eyeshadows are very pigmented and so soft and buttery. You just have to tap your brush onto the pan to get enough eyeshadow to cover your whole lid. I’m in love. The shades are all totally gorgeous. And I just can’t get enough of the beautiful packaging that looks somewhat like a cross between an ocean and a peacock or something.
The Eyeshadow Shades:
Sand: matte pale ivory
Cove: matte tan beige
Seashell: metallic pale pink (like a real seashell!)
Mermaid: metallic gold
Wave: metallic slate grey
Starfish: metallic bronze
Reef: metallic copper
Abyss: semi-matte dark brown
The shades are all amazing, but my favourites are definitely Mermaid, Wave, and Starfish for everyday washes of metallic shadow. Reef and Abyss are great crease or liner shades. Cove is a good base shade. And Sand and Seashell make awesome highlight shades for below the brow or for the inner corners of your eyes.
tarte Rainforest of the Sea Eyeshadow Palette Swatches:
This is a limited edition palette, so it is getting a bit hard to find. It has been intermittently sold out pretty much everywhere since its release. But if you do find it, you should totally get it.
tarte Rainforest of the Sea Eyeshadow Palette is available for $34USD from Sephora.
