Yves Saint Laurent Vernis a Levres Glossy Stain is a fantastic lip product. I have been thoroughly impressed by all the shades I own. Especially 15 Rose Vinyl, which I actually wore for my wedding last year and I only had to reapply it after photos and after eating. Even when it wears off, it leaves a nice stain so your lips still have some colour.
I own 4 shades of the YSL Glossy Stain: 15 Rose Vinyl from the original collection, 103 Pink Taboo and 105 Corail Hold Up from the Rebel Nudes collection, and 205 Pink Rain from the Pop Water collection. The original and rebel nudes collections are awesome, but I’m not a fan of the consistency of the pop water collection. All the shades I’ve tried layer really nicely and don’t flake or ball up with reapplication, but the pop water collection tends to ball up after awhile and kind of peel off in layers if that makes any sense? Basically wearing it all day feels kind of gross. But the other shades are great. They leave a bit of clear gloss on drinking glasses, but no colour. It also is pretty transfer resistant once it has fully set.
As for the formula of this product, it is most definitely in the realm of “luxury beauty products that contain a lot of synthetics for nice texture and staying power”. At $36USD per lipstick, it is definitely a luxury product. However, since it is long lasting you don’t have to reapply too often, so it won’t need replacing all that often. I usually reapply every 2-3 hours to keep my lips looking perfect, but even that is more often than is really necessary.
This lipstick contains a lot of ingredients I usually avoid in anything that gets applied on or near my face. However, lipsticks and lip glosses are one type of product that I tend to collect and hoard since they usually don’t cause any type of breakout or reaction regardless of the ingredients. Basically, this lip stain comes in really beautiful shades that last for a long time and it is a very effective product but it contains fragrance, it contains silicones, it contains alcohol, YSL tests on animals, and it is definitely not natural or eco friendly.
I’m normally not into buying something that misses most of the criteria I set for my products, but I needed something very long wearing for my wedding and bought these shades to try out. Now that I have them I will use them and enjoy them since they are really beautiful. But I probably won’t be buying more of them so that I can focus on more natural and eco friendly lip products in the future. But if you need long wearing lip colour that comes in great shades and isn’t sticky (no hair stuck to your lips!), then this is a really good option. Pink Taboo and Rose Vinyl are my favourites!
